The electrical output of Olkiluoto’s second reactor has had to be reduced in order to reduce the risk of failure. Electricity production will continue at a lower power until the end of 2027. The energy company informs about the matter The Power of Industry (TWO).
The reactor is currently operated at a power level of 735 megawatts, i.e. 155 megawatts underpowered from full power, which is 890 megawatts.
The reason for the lower power was that TVO did not have a spare generator rotor in stock.
This week the required part has arrived at the facility.
Despite the arrival of the spare part, limited production will continue until the plant receives a new, technically better rotor at the end of 2027.
Previously, TVO has announced that the lower power level will continue until the annual maintenance of 2027. The annual maintenance of Olkiluoto 2 in 2027 is planned to be carried out from around mid-April to early June.
