STOCK EXCHANGE: Fortum’s result was good for investors, Wärtsilä was a disappointment

The Helsinki stock exchange closed on Tuesday with a clear rise. The general index strengthened by 0.9 percent to 13,315 points.

On Tuesday, several major stock exchange companies published their earnings reports, while an energy company Fortumspecialized in the energy and marine industry Wärtsiläa measuring equipment company Vaisala and smaller Alisa Bank report their results from April to June.

In the most traded stocks Nokia closed up 5.3 percent, while Wärtsilä fell by 1.9 percent.

Price reactions and exchanges have been compiled in a more extensive table at the end of the story.

Wärtsilä’s order intake grew significantly from the comparison period to record numbers, and clearly exceeded analysts’ forecasts. The result also exceeded forecasts. Turnover, on the other hand, was slightly below the analyst forecast. The company lowered the outlook for the Energy business and now expects the demand environment to be at the level of the comparison period.

Vaisala’s result fell slightly short of expectations, but strong demand increased orders. The orders received by Vaisala increased in April–June to 137 million euros from 124 million euros in the same period last year. The company’s order book at the end of the review period was 199 million euros, while at the end of the previous year it was 186 million euros.

Vaisala kept its guidance unchanged and expects an ebita operating income of 95–110 million euros in 2026.

Fortum’s profit and EBITDA fell short of forecasts, but net sales were a positive surprise.

“The company continues to see strong customer demand from various industries, which reflects the long-term growth in demand for electricity”, CEO Markus Rauramo states in the announcement.

At the end of June, Fortum announced its intention to make a purchase offer for the Norwegian electricity sales company from Elmera Group. Fortum expects the combined business to bring significant cost efficiencies and operational synergies to the benefit of Nordic customers.

Alisa Bank’s profit before non-recurring items and taxes was EUR 1.5 million in loss in the review period. The corresponding result a year earlier was EUR 1.4 million in loss.

“The result was particularly influenced by the fact that the downsizing of the personal customer business is in progress and the organizational changes implemented at the beginning of the year have not yet brought the expected cost savings,” the company’s press release states.
