After an hour of suspension the Chamber of Deputies resumed the examination of the amendments al dl Sportamong these that bipartisan announced yesterday on swimming pools which aims to close the structures if the suction nozzles are not up to standard. The Chamber approved with 244 votes in favor of the amendment.
“Nelle public or private swimming pools intended for public use including those for collective use, the recirculation system for purification and, in particular, the water intake intakes such as bottom grates, nozzles or any other material used for the purpose, must – we read in the amendment – guarantee the safety necessary to prevent swirling suction phenomena with a suction cup effect towards every part of the bathers’ bodies.
In case of violation of the provisions of paragraph 1, the immediate closure of the plant is ordered until the obligations set out therein are fulfilled. The further obligations and responsibilities provided for by current legislation regarding the safety, management and maintenance of swimming pools and swimming facilities remain unchanged”.
Regarding the “expenses incurred for the adaptation of public swimming pools to the systems referred to in paragraph 1, a fund with an allocation of 4,725,000 euros for the year 2026 is established in the statement of estimates of the Ministry of Economy and Finance for the transfer to the autonomous budget of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
The related burden is provided for by corresponding reduction of the allocation of the special capital account fund registered, for the purposes of the three-year budget 2026-2028, within the ‘Reserve and special funds’ program of the ‘Funds to be distributed’ mission of the estimate of the Ministry of Economy and Finance for the year 2026, for this purpose partially using the provision relating to the same ministry”.

“I thank Parliament which is currently approving a law regarding public swimming pools or those open to the public, which prohibits having nozzles that create vortices and suck in, as unfortunately has happened in recent days, taking the lives of too many boys and girls. It will be operational from August 1st.” This was announced by the deputy prime minister and minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, speaking on the sidelines of the conference promoted by Confcommercio and SIB.
