La Jornada: Electrical service was guaranteed at the soccer tournament, reveals CFE

The special operation of the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) to guarantee a reliable electricity supply during the 2026 FIFA World Cup concluded successfully, the company reported in a statement.

He indicated that from February 4 to July 19, he established a comprehensive prevention, maintenance and operational care plan to guarantee electrical service in stadiums, airports, transportation systems and other strategic properties, strengthening the infrastructure that will benefit millions of users once the fair is over.

Among the main actions carried out, he highlighted, was the strengthening of the electrical infrastructure, which included the maintenance and modernization of substations, transmission and distribution lines, transformers, underground networks and fiber optic systems. He added that these actions contributed to greater reliability of the National Electrical System, by increasing the availability of generation through preventive maintenance and the incorporation of new capacity, which made it possible to meet demand and maintain operating reserve margins higher than the levels established as safe by the National Energy Control Center.

The CFE also inspected more than 1,200 kilometers of transmission and distribution networks, as well as 100 percent of the main and backup circuits that supply strategic properties. As part of the works and strategic actions, more than 3 thousand improvements were carried out in the electrical network, 15 line crossings were modified to strengthen the mobility and connectivity of the metropolitan area of ​​Monterrey and 81 primary equipment in 44 substations in Quintana Roo were modernized.

During the operation, the CFE deployed 680 workers organized into specialized teams, with a permanent presence in priority facilities to attend to any eventuality. In addition, it maintained a permanent 24-hour monitoring scheme from its control centers, with operational guards in circuits and substations, as well as with immediate availability of generators, lighting towers, materials and specialized equipment to respond in a timely manner to a contingency.

The actions were carried out in coordination with the ministries of the Interior; Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation; Agrarian, Territorial and Urban Development; and the Federal Attorney for Environmental Protection. It also collaborated with the governments of the host entities and states with high tourist influx during the World Cup.
