Chi è Stazi, esperto di Authority alla guida di Consob

Last night the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the president Giorgia Meloni, given the favorable opinion expressed in recent weeks by the competent parliamentary commissions, has decided on the appointment of Guido Stazi as President of Consob. The formalization of the appointment concludes a process that lasted a few months, with the mandate of former president Paolo Savona which expired last March. The majority discussion took several months, with the final choice falling on a technical profile that the National Commission for Companies and the Stock Exchange is already familiar with.

The assignments

Stazi’s last assignment was as general secretary of the Competition and Market Authority from 8 March 2022. Previously, still in Antitrust, he had been head of the Economic Evaluation Committee. He was Chief of Staff of the Communications Regulatory Authority (2005-2012) and General Secretary of Consob (2013-2017).

After graduating in law from the University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Stazi was assistant of Economic Policy at the Faculty of Law at Sapienza and of Finance Science at Luiss in Rome. He taught Competition Economics and Policy in the Faculty of Economic and Banking Sciences at the University of Siena. He was a columnist for the newspaper MF-Milano Finanza and author of writings and volumes on antitrust, regulation and digital economy.

In his hearing before the Finance Commissions of Parliament, Stazi specified: “I intend to take on this role with the desire to give further impetus to Consob’s action, enhancing – together with colleagues of the Commission and all the staff of the Institute – the wealth of skills, experience and innovation built up over the years”.

The objective, he added, “will be to strengthen the Authority’s ability to interpret and govern the transformation of the markets, promoting modern, effective and risk-oriented supervision, capable of supporting the protection of savings, the development of the capital market and the competitiveness of the economic system”.
