Finland unstable and rainy summer weather, and especially the fact that there were no hot spells in July, is now reflected as a clear spike in Norwegian’s booking numbers, says Norwegian’s director of public relations in Finland City of Mira.

“The Finns clearly want to take revenge for their summer and are heading towards the sun.”

According to Linnamaa, the August season of returning to work and the start of school has usually been a quieter time for bookings, but this year the number of bookings has significantly increased compared to last year.

On Norwegian flights, the most popular destinations for Finnish passengers in August, September and October are Barcelona, Crete and Milan.

Linnamaa says that he had considered in a circle of friends whether the improved booking situation could be due to the growth of the Finnish economy, but the friends had come to the conclusion that the reason is above all the summer weather.

Finnair communications director and member of the management team Days Tallqvist says that the demand for flights generally increased already in June and July.

“Passenger numbers increased by about nine percent in both months.”

The growth came mainly from traffic in Europe and North America.

The cool ones According to Tallqvist, the effect of the weather is particularly visible in the fact that flights have been booked for the next few weeks. Aurinkomatkat’s bookings also increased in rainy weather.

This year, it can be seen that when schools start, eyes shift to the next holiday, Tallqvist says.

“We want to continue the summer, a little more for a warm or city vacation.”

Finnair’s popular destinations are now Rhodes, Hania and Malaga, but also city destinations London, Berlin and Amsterdam.
