MARKETS: Mainly rising in Asia – Kospi falling

In Asia, the stock market has mostly been on the rise, although Kospi has taken a bit of a backseat.

At the time of the review, Japan’s Nikkei 225 was up 0.5 percent, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 0.4 percent, and Taiwan’s Taiex was up 0.8 percent. South Korea’s Kospi was down 1.6 percent.

Kospi heavyweights Samsung (-3.4%) and SK Hynix (-3.1%) were decreasing.

Japanese Mizuho-bank has started legal proceedings Radiant World against the company in Singapore’s Supreme Court, reports Bloomberg. Radiant World is a Singaporean raw material trader.

The MSCI Asia Pacific index was up 0.3 percent

In the auction of Japan’s two-year government bonds, demand remained sluggish, which increased expectations for a tightening of monetary policy, Bloomberg reports. In Japan, inflation accelerated for the third month in a row, but has not yet reached the two percent inflation target. Core inflation was 1.8 percent in August.

According to Bloomberg, the Japanese Ministry of Finance is expected to announce on Friday how much money it spent on the yen intervention earlier in August.

The euro weakened slightly against the dollar. One euro equals 1.1645 dollars, 185.74 yen, 0.85703 pounds or 11.093 Swedish kronor.

Brent oil was down 0.4 percent at around $89. WTI oil was down 0.3 percent at around $83.

The head of the Fed Kevin Warsh will make his first keynote address today in Jackson Hole. The market is waiting to see if he will give a hint about the direction of monetary policy in the United States.
