La Jornada: Development banking, pillar of growth: Government report

Development banking was consolidated as one of the State’s main instruments to promote economic growth and serve sectors that face greater difficulties in accessing private financing, according to the second government report.

Through credit and funding schemes, development institutions channeled resources towards micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), foreign trade, agricultural and rural activities, public infrastructure, housing and the military sector.

Part of these resources was granted directly and another through banking and non-banking financial intermediaries, with the objective of expanding access to credit in activities considered priorities for the economy and social development of the country.

The Report maintains that in the last year, the development banking sector also expanded its offer of financial products and services and resorted to digital tools to facilitate the operations of its users.

At the same time, he explains, he promoted training and financial education programs aimed mainly at sectors in vulnerable situations, including women, migrants, older adults, the indigenous population and inhabitants of rural areas.

“From September 2025 to June 2026, the development banks as a whole placed financing with credit and guarantees for one trillion 397 thousand 606 million pesos, which generated a balance of direct credit and promoted the private sector for 2 trillion 164 thousand 743 million.”

In the business sector, Nafin and Bancomext channeled 768,857 million pesos through credits and guarantees, resources that reached 555,184 companies; In addition, 45,731 entrepreneurs and businessmen received training and technical assistance to improve their productivity, management and integration into global value chains.

For its part, Banobras reported a balance of direct and induced credit to the private sector for 653 thousand 144 million pesos, with presence in 30 entities. Of that amount, 48.7 percent corresponded to infrastructure projects, 49 to states and 2.3 to municipalities, and among the resources, 8,317 million pesos stood out for urban transportation projects and 2,631 million for roads and highways.

In the agricultural and rural sector, Trusts Instituted in Relation to Agriculture granted 382,220 million pesos through private financial intermediaries, mainly for working capital, which supported 1,278,735 units of rural production, bringing the financing balance to 269,855 million pesos at the end of June.
