Fingrid raises grid fees – This also affects households

Network company Fingrid will increase the grid service fees collected from electricity companies by four percent from the beginning of 2027.

According to Fingrid, the reason behind the increase is a large investment program anticipating future customer needs and the increase in the costs of the expanding electricity system. According to the company, the costs of its operation have increased significantly in recent years as a result of the growth of the electricity system and the change in the production structure.

“At the same time, the revenues collected from main grid service fees have not grown in the same proportion, as they are mainly determined based on electricity consumption,” states Fingrid in the announcement.

The company reminds that the costs of grid operation are also increased by the geographical differentiation of electricity production and consumption, which increases the need for electricity transmission and transmission losses in the network.

According to Fingrid, network investments that enable growth must be made with priority, because electricity consumption in Finland is turning to strong growth in the next few years.

“Connection agreements enabling the growth of electricity consumption have already been concluded at an accelerating pace, which has increased connection fee income and at the same time curbed the need to increase the electricity transfer fees included in the main grid service fees,” says Fingrid.

The effect on household electricity bills is 0.1 percent

The increase that will be made now applies only to the main grid service fee, i.e. the pricing of electricity transmission.

According to Fingrid, the effect of the increase in grid fees on household electricity bills is moderate.

The share of network charges is about three percent of the total price of the electricity bill, so the effect of the increase on the household electricity bill is about 0.1 percent.

The electricity bill consists of the price of electricity, electricity transmission and taxes. Of the total amount, the share of electric energy is about 40 percent, the share of electricity transmission is about 30 percent, and the share of taxes is about 30 percent.
