From the reader. Finland needs growth, investments and the competitiveness of the export industry. At the same time, our security environment has changed and connections to the west must be ensured. When looking at these themes as a whole, the gaze inevitably turns to the north.
Northern Finland has an exceptional number of strengths that can be built on: there is clean energy, natural resources, strong technological know-how, industrial capacity, international companies, universities and a growing defense and security industry.
And most importantly, investment. Fresh ones Google billion-dollar investments and new data centers are a strong indication that international companies see significant competitive advantages in Northern Finland.
A new western gauge track, Rail Nordica, is being planned from Sweden to Oulu and Rovaniemi. It is the most significant strategic transport project in recent history. It strengthens Finland’s security of supply, security and military mobility, but at the same time it opens up new connections for industry with Sweden, Norway and Europe.
“Northern Finland’s growth program must be continued in the next government term as well.”
Petteri Orpon when writing the government’s program, the north was identified as a special region whose growth potential is in the interest of all of Finland. The government’s Northern Finland program was born. Recent news shows that it’s not just about potential anymore.
However, not everything has been resolved. We need experts, energy, transmission networks, functioning transport links and smooth licensing. It is also necessary to be able to build as much new business activity and added value as possible around international investments. Here, the public and private sector can do a lot in cooperation.
Northern Finland’s growth program must be continued in the next government term as well. The Nordic agenda is not based on special treatment, but on the fact that there are special opportunities here, the effective utilization of which is a national interest.
