Israelis’ travel abroad breaks records

In September 2026, Ben Gurion Airport and other border crossings recorded 1.23 million Israelis traveling abroad, the highest number for a September in history.

The September record follows August, which saw 1.41 million departures, the highest number in a single month on record.

The high September figure was facilitated by the timing of the autumn holidays, for which Israelis especially often go abroad. By comparison, in 2025, when the fall holidays were spread over two months, only 1.05 million trips were registered in September.

About 89% of departures were by air, according to data released on Wednesday by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CSB). 119 thousand exits were made through land border crossings (of which 57.8 thousand were through the Taba checkpoint, compared to 45.2 thousand in September last year), and another 11.8 thousand by sea.
