Share trading on the Helsinki stock exchange was quiet in June – Finnish investors saw a buying opportunity in these companies

The Helsinki Stock Exchange was quiet in June, when share trading was no less than 33.9 percent less than in June last year, according to the brokerage service Nordnet.

Compared to May, the stock exchange’s euro-denominated activity decreased by 8.7 percent. The exchange in euros of the entire Helsinki Stock Exchange fell by up to 14.9 percent from June a year ago.

At the end of June, the score of the general index of the Helsinki stock exchange ended up where it was at the beginning of the month. The approaching results season boosted the index development at the end of the month. In June, Nordnet Suomen’s customers net bought all investment instruments at the second fastest pace of the year, up to 138 million euros.

“Nordnet’s Finnish customers have increased their investments on a net basis in the first half of 2023 every month without exception. This reflects a strong belief in the recovery in the second half of the year and in the ability of stocks to best combat inflation”, Country Director of Nordnet Finland Suvi Tuppurainen says.

Big companies set fire

Finnish investors were most interested in the shares of large companies on the Helsinki Stock Exchange. Fuel company In this led the shopping list in June as in May. The company’s share price fell by 22 percent in the second quarter.

Streaming service for foreign shares Viaplay and an electric car company Tesla led trade statistics. Viaplay’s share price fell in June due to the earnings warning. Also this year, Tesla, which lost more than 100% on the stock market, attracted the interest of Finnish investors, as the company’s stock was at the top of the exchange volumes by all metrics.

Nordnet’s equity accounts The most purchased shares in June were Neste, the energy company Fortum and industrial automation company Training. The most sold shares were the steel company SSABhouse technician Uponor and implementer of energy solutions Enersense.

The most purchased shares for equity savings accounts in June were also Neste, Fortum and finansistalo Nordea. The best-selling shares were SSAB, a software company Qt Groupcrane equipment manufacturer Konecranes.
