Russia may be disconnected from “aviation SWIFT”

Russian air carriers may face difficulties in organizing flights due to the disconnection from Societe Internationale de Telecommunication Aeronautiqes (SITA) channels – “aviation SWIFT”, writes RBC. However, the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation says that the transition to “domestic solutions” will solve the problem.

Russian and foreign carriers operating flights between the Russian Federation and other countries may face difficulties in providing such flights as early as the fall of 2023, RBC said in a publication.

The SITA channel – “aviation SWIFT” – is the traditional and most common tool in the world of civil aviation for the exchange of information, for example between airlines and airports. It has over 2,500,000 customers in 200 countries, over 1,000 airports use the provider’s solutions, and the technology is used on 90% of all international flights in the world, according to the company’s website.
