On the Tel Aviv Tram, you have to pay before boarding.

On Friday, August 18, the first, red, light metro (tram) line will start operating in Tel Aviv. Residents of Gush Dan will have to get used to the new way of paying for the fare: if on the bus you can pay for the trip after boarding, on the tram it must be done before boarding.

Just like on a bus, every tram ride must be validated regardless of the availability of a pass or discounts. It is also necessary to activate the trip when transferring from another mode of transport. Each adult can carry a child under 5 years of age free of charge, for the second child under 5 years old you must purchase a ticket, in this case the discount will be 50 percent.

When paying for a fare using one of the mobile applications (Moovit, Pango, HopOn, Cello or ZUZU), you must activate a new trip before boarding, then select the type of transport – light rail (דנקל), and indicate the details of the trip (destination station), after which a QR code will appear in the mobile app. When landing at ground stations, there is no need for any additional steps. At underground stations, it is necessary to attach a QR code to the reader when boarding and leaving the station.

When paying with a Rav-Kav card, the trip must be authorized in the machine on the ground platform, at underground stations – Rav-Kav must be attached to the reader at the entrance to the station and exit.

A trip up to 15 km will cost 5.5 shekels, for longer distances – 12 shekels.

The light metro will operate from 5 am to 1 am.
