Rural revitalization is China’s priority for this year as well

China has published its Central Document number one for 2022, calling for “continuous comprehensive promotion of rural revitalization”, the Chinese Media Group (CMG) reports today.

As the first policy statement issued by central government each year, the document is considered an indicator of policy priorities. It has given priority to work on agriculture, rural areas and farmers for 19 consecutive years since 2004.

The government will ensure stable and growing agricultural production, growing incomes for farmers and peace in rural areas, according to a document released on Tuesday.

Policymakers have set a target for grain production for 2022 at 650 million tons, the same as last year.

Cereal production in China reached a record 682.85 million tons in 2021, according to the country’s statistical bureau, exceeding 650 million tons for seven consecutive years.

The document emphasizes that there will be no mass return to poverty, given that the country has achieved the goal of eliminating extreme poverty by the end of 2020.

E-commerce, tourism and logistics are also mentioned in the document to promote rural development.

Central document no. 1 for 2022 is based on the results of the annual central conference on rural work held last December, according to CMG
