Matthias Sturm, spokesman for Boehringer Ingelheim RCV, refers to a press conference next Friday, April 1, in Vienna, where the project is to be presented to the public. In addition to Boehringer General Manager Philipp von Lattorff, Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck and Lower Austria’s Governor Johanna Mikl-Leitner will also take part in the press conference.
“Largest settlement project in Lower Austria”
“With an investment volume of 1.5 billion euros and 800 new high-quality jobs, this is the largest settlement project in the history of our state. That makes me incredibly proud,” says Mikl-Leitner in a first reaction to the KURIER. Lower Austria applied for this production facility in a complex process and prevailed against locations in America, Germany and Spain.
“The pandemic and the war in Ukraine in particular have shown us how important it is that our country can also offer manufacturing companies competitive framework conditions,” says Mikl-Leitner.
City location too small
It was only in October that Boehringer opened its new extension at the main location in Vienna-Meidling after a four-year construction phase, for which 700 million euros were invested. Five new buildings were added to “Boehringer City” and 500 additional employees were hired. In the new facility, cell cultures are used to produce active ingredients for drugs to treat stroke, heart attack or cancer. The demand for biopharmaceuticals is huge, so the company was looking for new production capacity.
