Belgian stores of The Body Shop are closing their doors permanently

The Belgian branch of the British cosmetics chain The Body Shop, which was declared bankrupt by a Dutch court in February, will not be restarted. This is evident from a report by curator Alice van der Schee, writes The evening Monday.

According to the liquidator’s report, approximately twelve Belgian Body Shop stores were operated under franchise agreements. The expiration of that agreement prevented the relaunch of the chain in Belgium.

The store stocks have been sold to Dutch franchisees for 140,000 euros, while the sale of store equipment is currently being reviewed.

At the end of February, a Dutch court declared the Belgian branch of The Body Shop bankrupt. A curator at our northern neighbors must settle the bankruptcy, because the stores legally fall under the Dutch business unit The Body Shop Benelux.

The Body Shop previously closed its books in the United Kingdom, the company’s home country, due to financial problems, and a bankruptcy application is also pending in Germany. The Body Shop’s Dutch stores remain open as usual.
