Before mass purchases for Passover, the Ministry of Economy publishes a comparison of prices in stores

The Ministry of Economy and Industry and the Israeli Consumer Council conducted a study of prices for the most common goods from the so-called “Passover basket”: the difference between the most expensive and the cheapest retail chains for goods needed for Passover reached 926 shekels – 32%. The price difference for some products is more than 100%. On average, compared to last year, the price of the Passover basket increased by 4%.

As part of the study, specialists from the Ministry of Economy and the Israeli Consumer Council checked prices for 155 goods in 44 retail chains: both in different branches throughout the country and on the websites of these retail chains.

The most significant difference was in the price of the following products: concentrated tomato sauce 22%, 100 gram packaging – the lowest price of this product is only 90 agorot (0.9 shekels), and the highest is 2.7 shekels, which indicates a difference of 200 %. A pack of six Sano Sushi washing and cleaning sponges can be purchased for 6.80 – or 14.90 (140% difference). HaShahar HaOleh chocolate sandwich spread, so beloved by Israeli children, sells for between NIS 6.80 and NIS 15.90 (a 134% difference).

Fresh salmon fillets can be bought for 85.90 shekels per kilogram – or you can pay 199.90 shekels for the same kilogram (a difference of 133%). Osem ketchup in a 750-gram bottle is sold with a price range from 6.50 shekels to 14.80 shekels (a 128% difference).

The average cost of 155 items from the Passover basket in Israel is 3,250 shekels. At the same time, Rami Levy again becomes the cheapest retail chain, where a buyer will pay 2,923 shekels for a “Passover basket,” and AM:PM became the most expensive retail chain, where the same basket will cost 3,851 shekels.

The price “rating” of retail chains from the comparison list looks like this (from the cheapest to the most expensive): “Rami Levy” (2923 shekels), “Victory” (2981), “Yohananof” (2990), “Rami Levy” website (3002), Carrefour Hiper (3017), “Hatzi Hinam” (3020), “Hatzi Hinam Online” (3048), “Mahsanei Hashuk” (3048), Carrefour Market (3082), “Salah Dabbah” (3086) , “Netto Hisakhon” (3116), “Tiv-Taam” (3122), “Machsanei Hashuk Online” (3132), “Super Bareket” (3143), “Shufersal Dil” (3154), “Shufersal Dil EXTRA” (3159), “Machsanei HaShuk Mehadrin” (3169), “Hyper Cohen” (3173), “Yaynot Bitan” (3183), “Shufersal Online” (3190), “Machsanei HaShuk ba-Siti” (3231 ), “Super Market” (3238), “Shuk Mehadrin” (3248 shekels). Prices in these chains are lower than the Israeli average – 3,249 shekels for a Passover basket.

In the following chains, goods needed for Passover will cost more than the national average: Bar Kol Tov (3,257 shekels), Super Sapir (3,282), Machsanei HaShuk Bishvilha (3,296), Netto Hisachon Be-Shhuna” (3306), “Shuk ha-Ir” (3308), “Yaynot Bitan ba-City” (3316), “Rami Levi Be-Shhuna” (3320), Carrefour City (3338), “Zol ve be -Gadol” (3347), “Super Sapir be-Shkhuna” (3350), “Fresh Market” (3351), “Maayan 2000” (3351), “Shufersal Sheli” (3377), “Alonit be-Kibbutz ve be- Moshav (3386), Victory City (3453), Mega Ba-Ir (3491), Super Alonit (3407), Shufersal Express (3541), Mini Super Alonit (3768), and the most expensive “Passover basket” in the AM:RM 24-hour network is 3,851 shekels for 155 items needed for the holidays.
