Isidro Fain chairs the first meeting of the WSBI Social and Philanthropic Council in Bangkok, Thailand

The president of the Fundacin La Caixa and the Spanish Confederation of Savings Banks (CZECH), Isidro Fain chaired this Friday in Bangkok, Thailand, the first meeting of the Social and Philanthropic Council of the World Institute of Savings Banks and Retail Banks (WSBI), entity created in December 2023 of which Fain is also president.

This Friday’s Council meeting addressed issues such as the contribution to the Sustainable Development Goals and goals (ODS) of the entities attached to the WSBI, and success stories of some of the member foundations have been shared, among other topics.

This first Council has also served to propose new collaboration projects between associated entities, such as job creation and microbusinesses in developing countries.

In addition, the members of the Council have issued the ‘Bangkok Declaration’a manifesto for the change towards the construction of more inclusive and sustainable societies that includes the commitment of the participating entities in six areas of action: young population, poverty reduction, support for education, empowerment of women, older people and sustainability of the planet.

Likewise, Fain has presented three of the reference social programs of the Fundacin La Caixa: CaixaProInfancia, the Senior Citizens program and the Profuturo Foundation.

The recent agreement signed between the La Caixa Foundation and the Sparkassenstiftung (foundation of the association of German savings banks) on Silver Finance, supported by the Inter-American Development Bank.

“Through our investments and initiatives, we not only fulfill our corporate responsibilities, but we also embody the values ​​of empathy and solidarity,” stressed Fain.

The Council has the objective of enabling the exchange of experiences and good practices among members regarding their social work programs.

It also advises and offers guidance on current global trends in philanthropy, identifying large social and economic areas that require important developments to improve global sustainability and stability.

He Social and Philanthropic Council includes relevant international actors in social work and philanthropy, such as the State Bank of India, the German Sparkassenstiftung, the Grupo Social Foundation of Colombia, the Al Barid Bank of Morocco, the GSB Foundation of Savings Banks of Thailand, as well as the “Foundation” la Caixa” and CECA, among others.
