Air traffic controllers strike: the majority union announces the lifting of its notice period for this Thursday

While all the air traffic controllers’ unions had called for a strike in aviation this Thursday, which was expected to be massively followed, the majority union SNCTA announced in a press release published Wednesday the lifting of its notice.

“An agreement has been reached,” the organization explained in a short message on its website. “Given the extremely short deadline linked to this last minute conciliation, each controller can cancel their prior declaration (of strike), despite the deadline of 6 p.m. the day before the day having passed,” the union further clarified.

Air traffic control overhaul

All the unions had called for a strike after the failure of negotiations on the accompanying measures for an overhaul of air traffic control in France. The reform aims to “increase productivity”, according to an SNCTA official.

Thus, 75% of flights at Orly and 65% at Roissy Charles de Gaulle were to be canceled this Thursday, according to the General Directorate of Civil Aviation (DGAC) on BFMTV, which spoke on Tuesday, before the announcement of the lifting of the notice of the majority union. More broadly, on average 60% of flights were at risk of not being operated at all French airports.
