The debt of PetrĂ³leos Mexicanos (Pemex) with suppliers and contractors increased 17.3 percent, to 163,207 million pesos as of March 2024, according to a report released yesterday.

Pemex has obligations already invoiced since 2023 and in 2024 for 162,881 million pesos, in addition to work and/or materials received and pending invoice for 326 million pesos, according to the report.

The report on the status of debt with suppliers does not include amounts in dispute, taxes or jobs that are in the conciliation process with creditors.

According to the information disclosed by the oil company, which also has a financial debt of 106,100 million dollars, it has made payments of 505,912 million pesos in 2023 and 2024.

For months, the state giant has faced serious difficulties in paying suppliers, contractors and oil operators, who have warned that lack of compliance could put the survival of private companies at risk and hit hydrocarbon production.

Pemex reported a debt with suppliers of 359,760 million pesos at the end of 2023, its highest level in recent years. In February it said it would seek to accelerate payments.
