Metsä Board invests 60 million euros in the renewal of the cardboard machine

The renovation of the folding board machine located in Simpele is part of the previously announced investment program.

Metsä Board, part of Metsä Group, announces that it has decided to invest in the renewal of Simpelee’s folding carton machine.

According to the company, the value of the investment is approximately EUR 60 million and it is spread over the years 2024–2026. The investment will start immediately and is expected to be completed in the second half of 2025.

The release states that the investment will improve the quality of the folding board and increase the efficiency of production. In addition, it enables the replacement of fossil fuels in the production of cardboard.

With the renovation, the factory’s production capacity will increase by about 10,000 tons, after which the annual production capacity of Simpelee folding carton will be about 310,000 tons.

The investment decision made now is part of the major investment program announced on March 21 to modernize the Simpelee cardboard factory. The program will be implemented in stages over the next ten years.
