The net profit of the Mexican baking giant Grupo Bimbo decreased almost 42 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of the year, due to a drop in sales volume in North America, exchange effects derived from the strength of the peso and a drop in the operational income.

The company reported a decrease in its net income to 2.37 billion pesos, in a quarter marked by several important acquisitions and investments and despite the strength of its business in Mexico, its base market. The total income of Grupo Bimbo, which has a presence in more than 30 countries in America, Europe, Asia and Africa, fell 6 percent to 93.22 billion pesos.

Alsea profits, affected by the peso

The Mexican restaurant operator Alsea reported a 34 percent year-on-year decrease in its profits in the first quarter, pressured by the strength of the peso that impacted its profits abroad.

The company reported a net profit of 404,126 million pesos in the quarter, despite the same-store sales increase of 10.1 percent year-on-year during the period.

The total income of Alsea, which manages franchises of international chains such as Starbucks, Domino’s Pizza and Burger King, stood at 18,202.8 million pesos between January and March, an increase of 2.95 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Carso registers a 22% drop in profits

Grupo Carso’s net profit in the first quarter of the year reflected a decrease of 22 percent, registering 3,017 million pesos, compared to 3,870 million pesos reported in 2023, given the effects on several of the conglomerate’s divisions as a result of exchange strength. Sales in the quarter totaled 46 thousand 71 million pesos, a decrease of 6 percent compared to the 49 thousand 21 million pesos in the reference period. In the case of Sanborns there was a growth of 0.9 percent.

Alfa obtains profits of more than one thousand million pesos

The Alfa conglomerate, one of the largest in the country, recorded net profits of 1,17 million pesos in the first quarter, sustained by the strength of the Sigma food unit and greater demand.
