The 10 villages most destroyed by Hamas will receive NIS 1.5 billion for reconstruction

The Tkuma Directorate published this week the implementation of a project to restore the settlements of the Western Negev that were damaged during the Hamas massacre on October 7-8, 2023.

The ten communities most seriously affected will receive a total of NIS 1.5 billion for reconstruction. That’s about five times the compensation they would have received under normal procedure from the IRS. Most of this amount will be allocated to three settlements – Kfar Aza, Be’eri and Nir Oz, in which more than 100 buildings are subject to demolition, and 200-300 buildings each require major repairs.

Seven more settlements – Nirim, Reim, Kerem Shalom, Ein HaShlosha, Cholit, Kisufim and Nahal Oz – will receive several tens of millions of shekels for restoration.

All ten settlements will receive the allocated money at their disposal and will make their own decisions regarding their recovery. The Tkum management put forward two conditions for the payment of money. Firstly, the settlement concludes a support agreement with a management company licensed by the Land Administration (these companies will have to help the settlement manage money, draw up contracts, design). The second condition is that at least 60% of the allocated amount must go to the restoration of the housing stock, the remaining 40% can be spent on updating infrastructure, landscaping, etc.

The remaining settlements affected on October 7 have already received compensation from the tax department, and the department will pay them additional amounts to expand repair work.
