21-year-old Amalie Vilslev is dead
21-year-old Amalie Vilslev shared on Instagram her life with new lungs and later as a terminal patient in a hospice. Now she is dead

‘I don’t have time for so much talk, but you are welcome to write about Amalie.’

This is how Anne-Dorte Noes Vilslev begins her message to Ekstra Bladet. She has just lost her daughter, 21-year-old Amalie Vilslev, who was declared terminally ill just a few months ago.

‘She was a fantastic daughter and has left a huge mark in her all-too-short life,’ continues the message from Anne-Dorte Noes Vilslev.

And precisely big impressions, that’s what Amalie Vilslev managed to leave. On Instagram, several thousand people followed her life. First with her new lungs, which she got in 2019, and later as a terminal patient in hospice.

Because after two years and three months, Amalie Vilslev is diagnosed with chronic rejection. This means that the lungs no longer work and the lung percentage drops. Until you can’t breathe anymore.

Terminal
‘Death is once again at close range. I’m not going to die at the time of writing, but I don’t have my whole life ahead of me anymore either. The difference is that this time there is no plan B. Nothing to grab me. The treatment options have been exhausted. My lung function is plummeting, Amalie wrote in a post on Instagram on 29 June this year.

In 2019, Amalie Vilslev got new lungs. But two years and three months later, she has what is called a chronic rejection.

‘Since nothing more can be done, I have been connected to the palliative care team at the Kingdom. They just declared me terminal. If it continues downhill, they will therefore be ready with palliative treatment so that I can have a gentle last time. In addition, a plan is being made that I can be transferred to hospice when I am discharged from here,’ the post continues.

It turns out that it’s going to happen. Lung function continues to decline. And on July 8, Amalie posts a video. ‘Welcome to my cribbb’ is the text. She has moved to hospice. To die. The plasmapheresis had not stabilized Amalie’s lung function.

But even though her lung capacity was decreasing and decreasing, Amalie Vilslev was to the end her joy in life and with her oxygen bottle in her Prada bag, she was ‘sick with style’, as she herself described it.

No flowers
On the night of Tuesday, Amalie Vilslev will take her last breath.

Ekstra Bladet has been in contact with Anne-Dorthe Noes Vilslev. She says that the family now needs peace.

‘We have our son, for whom we must also be here. He is a fantastic person and has just as many good qualities as Amalie. We want to concentrate on him now in this difficult time,’ she writes in a message to Ekstra Bladet.

She also emphasizes that the family does not want any flowers – although they are happy with the idea. The family would rather donate an amount to the Vilslev group, which is a group created by young people with organ failure.

Ekstra Bladet has been given permission by the family to use pictures from Amalie’s Instagram in the article here.
