“‘Turbans’ is a metaphor, obviously it describes an accessory that we created with my 35 students at the Accademia del Lusso, but it also wants to show how autism and autistic people are perceived by society.” Thus Cosmo Muccino Amatulli, curator of the photographic exhibition ‘Turbanti’ inaugurated at the Casa Museo Boncompagni Ludovisi, organized and supported by the Accademia del Lusso and the non-profit organization ‘Modelli si Nasce’.
“I thought of this title precisely because it is one of the accessories that has always identified me since I have been doing this work – explains Amatulli – and at the same time it allows the same object to give a feeling of protection. To be welcomed, to be enveloped and protected within a comfort zone. After shooting with the 35 models, the subtitle automatically came: the art of being yourself. This is what I learned by shooting together with Roberto Autuori, photographer of the project: being able to be myself within a professional context full of superstructures”.
The exhibition “thus becomes an immersion in autism, positioning the portraits in a higher form and introducing final installations that allow the viewer to reflect on the perspective of the protagonists”, he concludes.
