Rosalía releases ‘Lux’ in full digitally: includes ‘Focu ‘Ranni’, ‘Novia Robot’ and ‘Jeanne’

Rosalía released her entire album ‘Lux’ digitally this Friday because the songs ‘Focu ‘Ranni’, ‘Novia Robot’ and ‘Jeanne’ Until now they were only in physical formats – vinyl and CD-.

Although they were not on digital platforms, he has sung them in concerts in France, Italy, Spain and Portugal.

In ‘Focu ‘Ranni’ -in Sicilian and Spanish-, Rosalía speaks forcefully of her “freedom”, which, she explains, she is not going to give in exchange for any romantic love. Alternating between a melodic voice and a more spoken, almost whispered voice, the artist tells how the idea of ​​marriage made her realize that it has never belonged to anyone other than herself.

“I will not be your half or your property, I will be mine and my freedom“, he assures. For this song, the Catalan singer was inspired by the story of Saint Rosalia of Palermoa Sicilian noblewoman who renounced her courtly life and marriage to become a hermit on Monte Pellegrino, dedicating herself to prayer.

In ‘Robot Girlfriend’ – which mixes Mandarin and Hebrew with Spanish – he goes further and makes a direct criticism to male pleasure that is nourished at the expense of women. In an ironic tone he tries to appeal to these women who present themselves as submissive to receive the approval of that model of society.

Literally, it satirizes the business of a sex toy manufacturer that offers female robots and accuses those who want them. “You wanted a robot but I’m real“, she sings in a fun tone despite the problems she presents. In ‘Jeanne’, Rosalía alternates between French and Spanish.

To accompany the release of ‘Lux (Complete Works)’, Rosalía He has also released a video clip for the first of the songs ‘Focu ‘Ranni’. In this, the artist appears dressed as a bride and accompanied by a few other women, who grab her and cover her as she escapes on a motorcycle from the marriage she narrates.

It is directed by Petra Collins -I had already worked with the Catalan in magazine editorials-, which puts elements such as the field or a white horse as symbols of that liberation that Rosalía talks about.
