Music streaming: almost half of the tracks uploaded to Deezer each day are generated by artificial intelligence

An alarming proportion. Nearly half of the titles uploaded each day on Deezer were generated by artificial intelligence (AI) compared to less than 20% a year ago, the French music streaming platform announced this Monday, April 20.

Deezer “now receives nearly 75,000 tracks generated by AI every day, which represents around 44% of daily uploads,” indicates a press release from the platform, the only one among the major streaming players to systematically designate tracks designed by AI.

Listening to these songs, however, remains “very low”, accounting for only between 1 and 3% of the total number of streams, specifies Deezer, which ensures that it removes these titles from its recommendations and demonetizes those “detected as fraudulent”. “AI-generated music is now far from a fringe phenomenon and, as daily deliveries continue to increase, we hope that the entire music ecosystem will join us in taking action to protect the rights of artists,” said Alexis Lanternier, CEO of Deezer, quoted in the press release.

Content explosion

In January 2025, the date of implementation of its detection tool, Deezer highlighted that 10% of the songs uploaded each day were created by AI, a share which had quickly grown to reach 18% in April and 34% in November. “We have demonstrated that it is possible to minimize AI-related fraud,” Mr. Lanternier said in the press release.

The emergence of generative AI is causing growing concern in the music industry and among artists who fear being drowned in a flood of artificially generated music.
