Teatro alla Scala: Myung-Whun Chung appointed new musical director from 2026

The Board of Directors of Teatro alla Scala Foundation authorized the Superintendent to sign the contract of maestro Myung-Whun Chung as Music Director. The theater announced this in a note. Master Myung-Whun Chung will succeed the master Riccardo Chailly in the position of Musical Director. Master Chung’s role will begin at the end of Master Chailly’s contract, which will end at the end of 2026.

The Board of Directors of the Teatro alla Scala Foundation which met today approved the final balance sheet of the foundation for the year 2025which ended with a positive result equal to 0.2 million euros.

The Director of Human Resources updated the Council on the progress of the negotiations for the renewal of the Scala Contract relating to the three-year period 2027-2030, as well as on the training course for managers in the field of Artificial Intelligence, in compliance with the provisions of the AI ​​Act of the European Parliament and the Council.

During the meeting, the update of prices for the opening evening of the season on 7 December and the introduction of a new Premium price range, which will cover the 10% of the most prestigious seats on all evenings of the season, were also examined. The measure is part of the Foundation’s strategy aimed at preserving and expanding the most accessible price ranges, while supporting new inclusion projects.
