Exhibitions, ‘The ancient civilizations of Turkmenistan’ closes: a unique opportunity to admire unique masterpieces

The exhibition ‘The ancient civilizations of Turkmenistan’, inaugurated last October 25th at the Capitoline Museums in Rome, has closed. It was a unique opportunity to admire extraordinary masterpieces never before exhibited outside Turkmenistan. The exhibition brings together a notable collection of archaeological finds from the protohistoric Margiana (3rd-2nd millennium BC), located in south-eastern Turkmenistan, and from ancient Parthia, in particular from the archaeological site of Nisa (2nd century BC – 1st century AD) in south-central Turkmenistan. Turkmenistan is one of the richest and most fascinating regions of Central Asia, where, as early as the 3rd millennium BC, trade routes favored not only the exchange of goods, but also the circulation of ideas, techniques and knowledge that contributed to the development of both Eastern and Western civilizations.
