As part of the World Music cycle, this June 19 Los Viudos de Piazzolla will bring to the Blas Galindo Auditorium of the National Center for the Arts (Cenart) some of the most emblematic songs of tango, that “sad thought that is danced,” as the Argentine composer and poet Enrique Santos Discépolo defined it.
The vast program will be a tour of representative works of the River Plate repertoire, from traditional tangos to contemporary compositions, with an interpretive approach that seeks to highlight the stylistic evolution of the genre.
The list will include parts such as Milonga del Ángel, Oblivion, Zita and Michelangeloby Astor Piazzola; Dancer and Nocturnalby Julián Plaza, and At Cumparsitaby Matos Rodríguez, to name a few.
Los Viudos de Piazzolla is the result of a relatively recent project by bandeonist César Olguín whose purposes are to promote tango by old and new composers.
In addition to him, the group is made up of musicians with extensive experience in the genre: the violinist Israel Torres, the pianist Frania Mayorquín and the double bassist Mario Cortés. Together, they affirm, they seek to renew the persistent impetus of being and doing tangos.
Melodic richness
According to information from Cenart, the melodic, harmonic and rhythmic richness of the works in the program allows each of them to expose their full potential and interpretative capacity, since tango, they maintain, always harbors the surprise of the permeable, of the “new airs” to which, without false prejudices, it is always open.
In 2009, UNESCO declared this Argentine musical expression Cultural Heritage of Humanity, a designation that has reaffirmed the universality it has possessed practically since its birth. A distinction that underlines the importance and cultural impact of tango in the world.
The concert will be at 7 p.m. at the aforementioned venue, located at Río Churubusco Avenue number 79, corner of Calzada de Tlalpan, in the Country Club neighborhood.
Admission to the event costs 250 pesos, with a two-for-one promotion when purchasing on Wednesdays through the website cenart.comprarboletos.com and on Fridays directly at the box office. For more information, consult the page cenat.gob.mx.
