Culture announces the ‘Calderón de la Barca’ theater award for new authors worth 10,000 euros

The General Directorate of Performing Arts and Music has announced the award for new authors ‘Calderón de la Barca‘corresponding to the year 2026 and equipped with 10.000 eurosaccording to the Official State Gazette (BOE). The purpose of the award is to recognize merit in dramaturgical creation by distinguishing theatrical works of novel authorship.

New authors, both Spanish and nationals of other States of the European Union and the European Economic Area, may participate in the award call.. New authorship is understood as a person who has not yet publicly released more than one work in exhibition circuits with box office returns.

Participants must present original theatrical works, whose duration corresponds to that of a complete dramatic show. Short plays, adaptations, versions or rereadings of texts previously published or exhibited publicly, nor those awarded in other contests, nor publicly, nor those published in any medium or dissemination medium, will not be admitted.

Likewise, works that are created entirely and exclusively by generative artificial intelligence cannot be awarded. Each applicant author may participate in the call with a single work.
