La Jornada: Heretics, infidels, witches and sorcerers

The book Times of Inquisition: Heretics, infidels, witches and sorcerers, published by the National Autonomous University of Mexico, addresses the history of the Tribunal of the Holy Office in New Spain and the property in which it was located.

It also highlights the relationship of the ecclesiastical institution with the black, Muslim, Moorish and Jewish population, as well as the difficulties that the healers and midwives of the region went through.

In 2025, the volume, coordinated by Nuria Galland, director of the Museum of Mexican Medicine, and Verónica González, was awarded the Antonio García Cubas Prize, from the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), a distinction that is awarded every year, with the purpose of stimulating the production and edition of works that contribute to the rescue, visibility and study of cultural heritage.
