Last episode of Stephen Colbert’s show played Tenavi’s theme song without permission, CBS agreed to pay compensation

The Late Show with Stephen Colbert -the last episode of the program was shown on May 21. Many viewers have suspected that the show was canceled because of Colbert’s criticism of Trump.

Colbert’s barb had to do with the choice of music. In the last episode of the show, Colbert referred to the news that Tenavat– series’ music rights holders had sued, among other things, the US administration for unauthorized use of the music. The band from Samantie’s talk show started playing Tenavat– series’ famous theme song Linus and Lucy.

“Oh no! I hope this doesn’t cost CBS anything,” Colbert joked as the band began to perform the song.

Presentation indeed paid CBS.

Jazz pianist Vince Guaraldin (1928–1976) composed Tenavat-music rights are owned by the California-based Lee Mendelson Film Productions, which is known for its strict attitude towards unauthorized use of its music.

Colbert was well aware of this and informed viewers that “anyone who uses this music without permission will have to pay a penny.”

Music the managing production company announces that it has reached an agreement on the compensation amount with CBS. The amount is unknown, but the production company said it will donate it to World Central Kitchen, an organization that provides disaster relief.

“We liked the use of music The Late Show’ssa fun and entertaining, and we are happy to support the important work of World Central Kitchen”, said the LMFP board chairman Jason Mendelson of the company in the bulletin.

According to Mendelson, the company aims to increase awareness that the use of music for commercial purposes requires a written license agreement.

Also In the penultimate episode of his show, Colbert announced that he would donate $2.5 million to the same organization.

At no point did CBS require Colbert or the band to pay for the music selection.

“Could they fire us again?” band leader Louis Cato commented to The New York Times.

Foremost published Tenavat-animated, A Charlie Brown Christmaswas shown specifically on CBS in 1965. In the same year, an animation soundtrack album was released, which contained Linus and Lucy established itself as the theme song of the series. The soundtrack was based on jazz music, which was unusual for a children’s program.

A Charlie Brown Christmas has since become one of the best-selling jazz albums in history, and has been inducted into both the Grammy Hall of Fame and the US National Recording Archives as a culturally significant recording.
