The film and audiovisual industry asks Urtasun for more time to finalize the deadline for amendments to the Film Law

A total of pass entities from different sectors of audiovisual and Spanish cinema -production, distribution, exhibition and television, sent a letter to the Minister of Culture last Thursday, Ernest Urtasunwho claim that they have not yet received a response, in which they asked have a broader time frame so that parliamentary groups can present amendments to the Cinema Lawa “transcendental” standard for the sector.

This was announced this Monday through a statement by the signatory associations, among which are the AECINE (State Film Association), AEVOD (Spanish Association of Video on Demand), ACCION (Association of film directors), DIBOOS (Spanish Federation of Associations of Animation and Visual Effects Production Companies), FECE (Federation of Cinemas of Spain), FEDICINE (Federation of Distributors Film Exhibitors), NAECE (New Association of Film Exhibitors of Spain) and PATE (Audiovisual Producers).

Also included are PIAF/MAPA (Federated Independent Audiovisual Production Companies / Territorial Table of Audiovisual Producers), PROA (Federation of Audiovisual Production Companies), PROFILM (Association of Spanish International Audiovisual Production Companies), PROXIMA CINE (Association of Independent and Author Film Distributors in VO) and UTECA (Union of Open Commercial Televisions).

In the letter, The entities thank Culture for the “effort made” to promote a new standard for the sector, as well as “for the willingness to dialogue and the attention provided”, while expressing its willingness to actively collaborate in achieving a solid, stable regulatory framework widely supported by the entire industry.

In this sense, they consider it essential that its processing be developed “with the maximum possible consensus, guaranteeing the effective participation of all the agents involved and allowing a detailed analysis of its economic, cultural and industrial implications“.

For this reason, they ask that additional information be provided on those modifications, revisions or aspects of the bill that are being negotiated or analyzed during the current parliamentary process, and that the possibility of requesting the Congressional Culture Commission to extend the deadline for the presentation of amendments until the end of next September be assessed.

“We understand that this temporary extension would allow us to enrich the process of dialogue between the different agents of the sector and the institutions.would favor a more in-depth analysis of those aspects that still require clarification and would contribute to reaching a law with the highest possible degree of consensus and support sector, called to replace a standard that has been in force for almost two decades,” the entities say.

In the statement, the thirteen associations warn that “time is running out” and that is why they make this request public to reach a law that has “the highest possible degree of consensus and sectoral support.”
