International Literature Prize for “The Resettlement”: An idiosyncratic book about captivity

The jury said that “The Resettlement” was an idiosyncratic book about captivity. “A wayward book of covenant: a book about the mysterious ability of people to bind together in the face of devastation, when everything else falls apart.”

Visky talks about it in risky language, wrote the jury, which included the musician Joy Denalane. The award is endowed with 35,000 euros – of which 20,000 euros goes to the author and 15,000 euros to the translator. The prize is intended to honor an outstanding work of contemporary international literature in a first German translation.

The award was presented for the 18th time by the HKW and the Elementary Particle Foundation. Last year, “Autobiography of Death” by the South Korean Kim Hyesoon was the first poetry work to be honored. It was translated by Sool Park and Ulyana Wolf.
