The group Mr. Perinéformed by Colombians Catalina Garcia y Santiago Prieto, is in Spain, immersed in a tour of more than 35 dates in which they will tour Latin America, the United States and Europe. Concerts in which they are also presenting their fifth album to the public ‘Instructions to be happy’a work made up of nineteen songs that range from pop, Caribbean rhythms or more alternative sounds, and which they released on April 30.

We are happy to go out and show what our fifth album is, and that we are just really premiering live during this tour in Spain.“, commented Santiago, the band’s composer and producer, in an interview with Europa Press. “I feel that it is brewing here, it is becoming something very powerful,” Prieto pointed out, in reference to his feelings during the first dates of this tour of Spain, in which they have already visited A Coruña, Burgos and Madrid.

Regarding the leitmotiv of her new project ‘Instructions to be happy’, the singer, Catalina García understands that everyone “has their own instructions” to seek happiness, differentiating that “It’s not about being happy, but about being happy. It is a different path, there is a search, there is like a review of the being, of asking where we are going, what that purpose is.”

Some existential questions that flow in this album, and that the singer assures that she has questioned herself repeatedly throughout her career. “How to go through the gray to see the colors of life? I think it is a question that is constantly there, accompanying us,” Catalina has specified.

The album also stands out for a marked contrast in styles, with songs that invite reflection and slow down like ‘Desacelera’, along with others “to invite ridicule and absurdity” such as ‘Aguaráchate’. “It comes from a moment of great frustration and sadness, wanting to do something that would get me out of there.”the artist has recognized in reference to the inclusion of songs like ‘Aguaráchate’.

COLLABORATION WITH CARLOS VIVES

Regarding one of the most impressive collaborations on the album, Santiago has revealed how the inclusion of singer Carlos Vives in the song ‘El airplane’ was forged. A song that Vives joined after showing him the album in his studio in Bogotá, when it was not yet complete, the artist becoming especially interested in that topic, which he finally delved into.

Prieto has stated that it is “one of the most important collaborations”, since the Colombian has been a reference for the group since they were children. ““I remember in third grade, in a literature assignment, singing ‘The Land of Oblivion’ in front of the entire class.”the musician recalled.

REFERENCES TO GARCÍA MÁRQUEZ

At the same time, another of the surprises on the album is found in the song ‘La Happiness’, which includes statements by Gabriel García Márquez in which the writer argued that ““You only have happiness for moments, and you don’t know what you had until after it’s over.”

“An interview appeared on YouTube that they did with him in the 70s in Barcelona, a journalist talking with him about very everyday things asked him this question about what happiness was, and “He said a very wise and very simple phrase at the same time, so that’s where the idea came from to ‘sample’ that phrase a little and use it as an excuse to make a track.”the musician has described.

VIRALITY OF ‘OUR SONG’

For her part, Catalina has recounted how the group has coexisted with their viral song ‘Our Song’, published in 2015, but which since 2024 began to generate millions of views due to its use in Tik Tok and Instagram clips. “It had always been a special song for our audience, but seeing it go viral in the world was and continues to be a very surprising experience,” he commented.

Thanks to the explosion of the song, the singer has indicated that “many new people” began to listen to the group. “It’s a song that I have a lot of love for because When I wrote it it seemed like it didn’t generate that much interest, and look at everything that has happened around it, Thanks to that song many positive and beautiful things in my life,” he stated.

COLLABORATIONS WITH SPANISH ARTISTS

Finally, Catalina explained that in Spain “there are incredible artists”, who have inspired them and who “are doing spectacular things”. Specifically, the artist has made reference to a collaboration that she recently released with La La Love You, in the song ‘Las Medusas no tiene corazón’, which “has been extremely well received by people.”

In this sense, the singer has alluded to her songs with artists such as Pedro Pastor, Leiva, El Kanka or Macaco, with whom she has collaborated, emphasizing that they always meet “listening to what’s going on“and wanting to make music with Spanish artists.
