Cristina Rivera Garza, Angela Davis, David Toscana, Rita Indiana, Jaime Siles, Andrés Neuman, Élmer Mendoza, Elma Correa, Ben Clark, Michel Nieva, Cristina Bendek and Giuseppe Caputo are some of the authors who will participate in the International University Book Fair (Filuni), whose eighth edition will be held from tomorrow until August 30 at the University’s Exhibition and Congress Center Autonomous National of Mexico (UNAM).
The meeting, which has become a space to reflect on contemporary challenges from knowledge, culture and dialogue between the academic communities of Ibero-America, will bring together 350 university publishers from 14 countries.
Organized by the Coordination of Cultural Diffusion, through the General Directorate of Publications and Editorial Development, Filuni will have the University of Valencia as a guest this year. Its delegation will be made up of academics, university authorities, researchers, authors and artists. The presence of Jaime Siles, Reina Sofía Prize for Ibero-American Poetry 2026, stands out; the pianist Pablo García Berlanga, and the researchers Cristina Vidal and Carme Manuel. The program offers 50 activities including editorial presentations, discussions, conferences, workshops, readings and documentaries.
This year, the thematic axes of the fair respond to issues that today impact the conversation in society and in higher education institutions: university culture, for example, vindicates the value of these institutions as spaces for free thought, artistic creation, scientific production and social commitment.
In the context of Filuni, the collection Cuadernos Universitarios por la Paz will be launched, consisting of 11 volumes with essays that reflect on the contemporary construction of the notion of peace and the mechanisms to eradicate violence.
Commitment to native cultures
According to the organizers, the culture of pacification raises the need to strengthen dialogue, coexistence, respect for life and conflict resolution in a complex global scenario. Freedom of expression against the speech of intolerance and physical attacks against journalists.
Exile invites us to reflect on displacements, migrations, diasporas and the forms of mobility and belonging that have marked the cultural history of Mexico and Spain; Native and minority languages occupy a central place as expressions of cultural and linguistic diversity, which universities have the responsibility of preserving, studying and projecting into the future.
Leading figures from literature, research, academia, the arts and contemporary public reflection will attend Filuni, who will participate in conferences, round tables, editorial presentations, workshops and meetings with readers to strengthen cultural and academic ties between university communities on both sides of the Atlantic.
The inaugural conversation will be led by the Monterrey writer David Toscana, Alfaguara Novel Award 2026.
Toscana will chat about his work with Verónica Murguía, Eduardo Antonio Parra and Rosa Beltrán.
American activist and writer Angela Davis will participate in the dialogue on August 26 Abolition, feminism, now! with Gina Dent and Amneris Chaparro Martínez, in the Miguel Covarrubias room of the University Cultural Center.
The closing of the meeting will be the conversation led by the narrator Cristina Rivera Garza, who will talk with Sara Uribe about her most recent book, Geological scriptures, volume that revolutionizes the way of understanding contemporary literature from a materialist, ecocritical and political perspective.
