The Ukrainian song that the Crimean beauty queen sang on Instagram has become a symbol of Ukrainian resistance after Russia invaded Ukraine.
Crimean the beauty queen was fined in Russia for the video she uploaded to Instagram, in which she and a friend sing the Ukrainian national anthem, known as a protest song. The issue was reported by a Russian newspaper in exile Medusa referring to the news agency Ria Novosti.
Chosen as Miss Crimea of 2022 Olga Valeeva was fined 40,000 rubles in court for performing a Ukrainian song on Instagram. At the current exchange rate, the amount is around 770 euros.
The friend who sang with Valejeva in the video was sentenced to 10 days in prison. It is said that the punishment for the liar was lighter because he has minor children.
The women were convicted of two administrative offenses: disparaging the Russian military and spreading the propaganda symbols of extremist movements.
Chervona kalina is a well-known Ukrainian song composed and written by Stepan Tšarnetski in 1914. After Russia invaded Ukraine last February, the song became one of Ukraine’s symbols. It has been shown resistance in Ukraine, and outside Ukraine support for a country fighting a defensive war.
The name of the song Chervona Kalina i.e. “red dog’s hair” or “red berry hair” symbolizes Ukraine. In the lyrics of the song, it is said that Ukrainian volunteers are marching on a bloody field and freeing Ukrainians from the shackles of the Muscovites.
Several different versions of the song have been made during the current year. In a video uploaded to YouTube, Chervona Kalina sings, among other things, Ukrainana’s defense forces. At the beginning of the video, a soldier plays the bandura, the national instrument of Ukraine.
The song has also been performed around the world in support of Ukraine. In this video, the song is sung by people from all over the world, including Finland. The video is subtitled in English.
A version of the song has also been performed by Pink Floyd, who plays the singer of the Ukrainian band Boombox Andri Hlyvnjukin in the background.
CRIME was published on the Ministry of the Interior’s Telegram channel on Sunday evening video, in which the women plead guilty to performing the song. Valejeva says that she had no idea of the meaning of the song, and her intention was not to promote propaganda.
You can find a short one on Instagram snippet about the song sung on the balcony. The video was uploaded to Instagram by the women themselves, and it garnered widespread attention.
On her own Instagram account, Valejeva tells being Ukrainian and from Crimea.
The Crimean peninsula is a part of Ukraine occupied and illegally annexed by Russia in 2014.

Medusa in Crimea, in mid-September, six people were sentenced to fines and 15 days in prison for singing “red berry songs” at a wedding.
According to Russian state media, the song “is considered the anthem of Ukrainian nationalist groups, including groups banned in the Russian Federation,” Meduza reports.
