The Thyssen proposes to reinterpret the 'Diptych of the Annunciation', by Jan Van Eyck, in its 19th edition of #VersionaThyssen

He Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum in collaboration with the Community of Madrid and with the support of PRIOR Art Space and Kronos Homes, has presented the 19th edition of #VersionaThyssen, the competition that invites young artists between 16 and 35 years old to reinterpret some of the works in their collection.

On this occasion, the art gallery has proposed to version ‘Diptych of the Annunciation’ (ca. 1433-1435), by Jan Van Eyck; ‘Singer’ by Édouard Vuillard; ‘The jester called the knight Christopher’de Hans Wertinger; ‘Junkerboden under the snow’, de Ernst Ludwig Kirchner; ‘Still life with cat and stingray’, by Jean Baptiste Siméon Chardin; y ‘Color composition / Composition No. I with red and blue’ by Piet Mondrian.

The artists Inés Jimm, Julieta Wibel and Jack McVeigh are invited to participate as prescribers of this call, as Miranda Makaroff, Flavita Banana, Coco Dávez, Rocío Quillahuaman, Lara Lars, Trapalleiro or Hugáceo Crujiente did previously, among others. The three will also be part of the jury that will select the winning works, along with representatives of the museum and the Community of Madrid.

The awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, May 18, coinciding with the celebration of International Museum Day. Artists who participate in #VersionaThyssen will be able to do so until May 5 by sharing their creation on Instagram, with a mention of @museothyssen, the title of their work and the title of the versioned painting.

Each participant can send as many versions as they want and thus be eligible for one of the prizes of each call, which range from 500 to 1,000 euros and benefits at the museum, to the special Prior Art Space prizes for artistic residency, the Uniqlo Prize for young artists and Thyssen Young Friends Award.
