The Government reminds Vox of the actions of Culture “within its powers” to promote bullfighting

The Government has reminded Vox of the recent actions taken by the Ministry of Culture “within its powers” to promote bullfighting including awards and subsidies, as well as “visibility” projects.

The Executive has supported this in a parliamentary response collected by Europa Press the work of the department headed by Ernest Urtasun regarding bullfighting after questions from the Vox formation in which the lack of actions for a “dissatisfied” sector was questioned.

In its question, Vox highlighted the “unanswered” request for a meeting by the president of the Toro de Lidia Foundation, Victorino Martín, with Urtasun. It was also noted that the number of bullfights and other celebrations has been reduced by half in ten years, “despite being declared cultural heritage in 2013.”

In his response, The Government has recalled that in this section the National Bullfighting Prize (endowed with 30,000 euros) has already been announced.as well as an annual nominative subsidy has been granted to the Fighting Bull Foundation for “the compilation of the set of knowledge and creative and productive artistic activities that make up bullfighting”, for 35,000 euros.

In addition, he has highlighted the Las Culturas del Toro project, aimed at making visible the cultural aspects of bullfighting as a manifestation of Spanish cultural heritage. The latter consists of two lines of action: bullfighting memory and bull cultures in state museums.
