The Academy of Performing Arts condemns acts “against the dignity” of women without citing its academic Ramón Paso

The Academy of Performing Arts this Thursday condemned any type of act of gender violence, coercion or abuse that “attack the dignity” of women, although clarifying that they do so “out of respect for the presumption of innocence” and without mentioning at any time his academic Ramón Paso, reported by the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for alleged sexual crimes against several women.

In a statement issued one day after the complaint became known, The institution has rejected violence against women both in the field of performing arts “and in any other professional or personal field.”

Likewise, it has offered its support and collaboration to public institutions to eradicate everything related to gender violence, while recalling that the board of directors of the academy respects the parity of its governing bodies and has promoted the creation and operation of an Equality Cabinet and a Working Group for social change.

“What years ago were behaviors ignored by society today cannot be admitted. In short, we reject the behaviors that cause so much damage to the victims and we appeal to society to contribute to the disappearance of this social and human damage,” he concluded.

Ramón Paso has been denounced by the Madrid Provincial Prosecutor’s Office for alleged sexual crimes that he committed against several women between 2018 and 2023. The playwright appears on the institution’s website as an academic, in a space that includes his biography.
