Children's author Oili Tanninen has died – Culture

Oili Tanninen is known, among other things, for the books Nunnu ja Hissu.

Children’s author Oili Tanninen has died at the age of 90. Kustannusosakeyhtiö Otava told about the death of the author, known for his Nunnu ja Hissu books published in the 1960s and 1970s. Facebookon its website.

Tanninen illustrated all his books himself, and his unique paper-cutting technique once brought a new kind of color to children’s books. Tanninen also edited short animation films about the adventures of his children’s book characters.

Tanninen has received, among other things, the Topelius prize, the Anni Swan medal and the state literature prize.

Born in Sortavala, Karelia, Tanninen did a large part of his work abroad. She lived with her husband, who worked as a correspondent Aarne Tannisen due to work for a long time in Moscow, London and Washington, among others. The author’s spouse died in 2022.
