Nacho Fernández, captain of Real Madrid, awarded for his support of bullfighting: “Football is my life; bullfighting, my passion”

The Royal Union of Fighting Bull Breeders celebrated this Thursday the eighth edition of its awards. The staging of his re-elected president, Antonio Bauelos, who held the first assembly of his new mandate prior to the awards ceremony at the Wellington Hotel in Madrid. The Community of Madrid – for its unconditional help to the brave field, Samuel Flores – for his exemplary career – and Nacho Fernndez – for his support of the festival – were awarded in an event that was attended by Infanta Elena.

Nacho, captain of Real Madrid, collected the award from Juan Pedro Domecq -vice president of the organization-. He explained the origins of his hobby, “thanks to my father who, since I was a child, took me to the bullrings as I do today with my four children in order to convey to them the values of the world of bullfighting.” One of the participants threw down the gauntlet of changing his soccer boots for ballet flats, since he has been involved in raising the brave bull through his own ranch and as a partner in Alejandro Talavante’s. He responded forcefully: “Football is my life, I am very happy with my sport. Bullfighting is part of my hobbies, it is my passion. I know it is very difficult to become a rancher like the ones we have in this room today. “My project is very exciting but I’m not in a hurry, it’s my small contribution to the world of bullfighting.”

The rancher Samuel Flores collected from the hands of Infanta Elena -daughter of his great friend King Emrito- the trophy that recognized an entire life around the brave bull. After thanking him for the tribute, he took the opportunity to vindicate the function of the Venta del Batón – incomprehensibly closed -: “It was always a real hobby quarry, you couldn’t let it get lost. Since I was a child I came to see the variety of cases that were fought in San Isidro. In Spain we have a varied wild cabin It would be magnificent for the fans to enjoy its richness in the corrals of such an emblematic place that has made so many fans. My experience tells me that accidents with bulls in the Batán corrals are not common. “We must all work together to expose the bulls again in the Baton,” he stated bravely in front of his companions – many of them completely in denial about this scenario.

For his part, Ángel de Oteo received recognition from the Community as general director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of the Community of Madrid: “On behalf of the president, I can say that the bull is protected in Madrid because we have a census of 11,700 animals in our Community that makes us feel proud of the genetic wealth and what they contribute to the brave festival. In addition, they allow for magnificent maintenance of our landscapes. We have not hesitated to help the ranchers whenever it has been necessary because the continued struggle they make to fight for this breed has a lot of merit. “Now we are working on a program to promote the consumption of fighting bull meat with more than 30 restaurants.”
