Nuran David Calis directs “A Space Delimited by Shadows” – Culture

When Emine Sevgi Özdamar’s latest novel “A Space Bounded by Shadows” was published two and a half years ago, it was a literary event: a thick, historical and world-rich book in which the author talks about her life as a theater artist in exile, always in search of something Wait, for a home that she finds mostly in people, sometimes in things, never in places. Since her debut “Mutterzunge”, Özdamar has been writing in her very own version of the German language, in which a life between Turkey, France and Germany is inscribed – and a longing for Arabic as the language of her ancestors. Director Nuran David Calis has had the courage to stage a theater adaptation of this novel as a premiere at the Schauspiel Köln, which is crisply short. Can this work?
