The Australian, suffering from heart failure, was the first person in the world to discover from a hospital with a completely artificial heart.

Australian researchers and doctors who conducted the operation reported that implantation passed with a clinical success, since the man who implanted the artificial heart lived for more than 100 days with the device, before the donor heart was transplanted in early March.

The fully artificial heart from the American company Bivacor was the first implanted rotary pump in the world to completely replace the human heart, using magnetic levitation to simulate the natural blood flow of a healthy organ.

A 40-year-old man from the new South Wales, suffering from severe heart failure, agreed to become the first patient in Australia and the sixth in the world to fully artificial heart.

The device was installed on November 22, 2024 at the Holy Vincent Hospital in Sydney during a six -hour operation carried out under the guidance of a cardioral surgeon and transplantologist Paul Yans. The patient was discharged from the hospital with an implant in February. The donor heart for transplantation became available in March.

The implant, which is still undergoing the initial stages of clinical trials, was developed for patients with a severe stage of bentricular heart failure. This disease usually develops as a result of other conditions, such as a heart attack and coronary heart disease, and can also be associated with problems such as diabetes. These diseases damage or weaken the heart, due to which it cannot effectively pump blood through the body. The implant is designed as a temporary solution that supports the life of patients until the possibility of transplanting a donor heart arises. However, the long -term goal of Bivacor is that patients can live with this device without the need for heart transplantation.
