What foods should you avoid if you have bronchitis?

Refined sugar, unhealthy fats, and lots of salt are not good for the recovery process of people with bronchitis.

Bronchitis is a condition in which the lining of the bronchial tubes becomes inflamed, swollen and has increased phlegm secretion, causing symptoms such as coughing, expectoration and difficulty breathing. The disease is often caused by viruses, bacteria or irritants such as dust and smoke.

Trans fat, saturated fat

Patients should choose cooking methods such as grilling, steaming, sauteing, focusing on whole, nutrient-rich foods to protect intestinal health and support the recovery of the respiratory system.

Foods high in salt

Consuming a lot of salt can cause the body to retain water, exacerbating breathing difficulties in people with respiratory diseases. Reducing salt and pepper intake during recovery from bronchitis helps maintain good airway function and reduces discomfort caused by fluid accumulation.

People with bronchitis should focus on whole foods rich in fiber, vitamins, and antioxidants. Fresh vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats help reduce inflammation, strengthen the immune system, and gut health. Drinking enough water and getting enough rest also play an essential role in the recovery process.
