Long Chau brings blood fat control solutions from the US to Vietnam

Long Chau Pharmacy and Vaccination System brings a solution to support blood fat control using the active ingredient evolocumab from an American pharmaceutical corporation to Vietnam.

According to Long Chau, this activity continues to realize the unit’s strategy of “aiming to increase access to medical breakthroughs and reduce the burden on cardiovascular patients in the country”.

Risk of recurrent myocardial infarction

According to health experts, after experiencing a myocardial infarction or stroke, even after being discharged from the hospital, the patient’s journey to protect their cardiovascular health still has many challenges.

Many studies by international scientists have recorded that one in five patients who have had a myocardial infarction will experience a serious cardiovascular event within the next 12 months. Notably, nearly half of relapse cases occurred in just the first 3 months after the event – a period considered by cardiologists as the “golden time” to control risk.

One of the risk factors for recurrent myocardial infarction is the level of LDL-C cholesterol, often called “bad cholesterol” in the blood. When LDL-C increases, atherosclerotic plaques can continue to accumulate in blood vessel walls, increasing the risk of heart attack, stroke and many other cardiovascular complications. According to scientists, current treatment methods have significantly improved disease control, but many patients still have not achieved the goal of controlling bad cholesterol as recommended by international cardiovascular associations. In Vietnam, the proportion of patients achieving their bad cholesterol target after treatment is still modest, showing the urgent need for more effective treatment solutions, according to research published in the ASEAN Heart Journal in September 2018.

Active ingredients help reduce “bad cholesterol” in the blood

Faced with the “treatment gap” that still exists, with a joint effort to help Vietnamese people well control risk factors for recurrence of myocardial infarction and dangerous cardiovascular diseases, Long Chau has collaborated with partners to bring a new generation of LDL-C control solutions that are being widely applied around the world. This therapy uses the active ingredient evolocumab, which is indicated for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease or those with very high cardiovascular risk who need more aggressive control of LDL-C according to their doctor’s instructions.

According to the results of a Fourier study on 27,564 patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease on background statin therapy, evolocumab helps reduce LDL-C. Not stopping at controlling cholesterol index, therapy also helps slow down the progression of atherosclerotic plaques and reduce the risk of serious cardiovascular events such as: myocardial infarction, stroke, coronary revascularization and unstable angina.

Bringing advanced solutions closer to Vietnamese patients marks Long Chau’s progress in its efforts to improve the quality of cardiovascular health care. Through a system of 2,678 pharmacies covering 34 provinces and cities, the unit brings more opportunities to access modern treatment achievements in the country, thereby increasing the ability to control long-term diseases and reduce the risk of recurrence of dangerous events.

Long Chau representative said that the unit is committed to helping millions of patients have easier access to rare drugs, international standard medical inventions, and modern care equivalent to those in developed countries. This has a lot of meaning in the context that non-communicable diseases are posing many challenges for the healthcare industry, treatment always requires expertise, accessibility and long-term companionship.

Responding to the spirit of Resolution No. 72-NQ/TW on universal health care and Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on science and technology development of the Politburo, in 2026, Long Chau plans to bring more than 30 new generation drugs closer to the people, contributing to improving the quality of life and reducing the burden of disease for the community.
