A plan to double the number of beds at Sheba has been approved.

The National Infrastructure Committee has approved the development of a master plan for Sheba Medical Center in Tel Hashomer.

According to the plan, the hospital’s bed capacity will increase from 1,860 to 3,303 by 2045. In addition to expanding the hospital’s space, buildings will be constructed with rooftops housing two helipads in addition to the existing ground-based one.

The fences separating the hospital from Ramat Gan will also be removed. In their place, an open urban space with paths, squares, and parks will be created, connecting Sheba with neighboring neighborhoods.

Another change concerns the transportation network: a station for the M3 metro line is planned for the hospital grounds, and a station for the Purple Light Rail line is planned nearby. A 600-meter-long pedestrian axis will connect the two stations, providing convenient access for staff, patients, and visitors. The plan also includes solar panels, landscaping, and the preservation of historic buildings.
