The Ministry of Environment and the Ministry of Health reported the discovery of mosquitoes carrying the West Nile fever virus in Petah Tikva, Kafr Qasem, Kafr Bar and in the area of Ben Gurion Airport.
Mosquito vectors have also been detected in the Brener and Arava Tichona regional councils.
Since the beginning of this season, 17 cases of West Nile fever have been diagnosed in Israel. One patient has died and another remains in the hospital. Most patients experienced characteristic symptoms, including fever, rash and confusion.
Local authorities have been informed of the threat of the spread of the virus and instructed on measures to combat mosquito vectors.
